Schlenkerla are the main proponents of what was a nearly dead style. Everything they brew has a characteristic smokiness coming from the liberal use of smoked malts and their signature yeast strain. They’re best known for darker beers but they also do a helles and this helles is unique in that it carries Schlenkerla’s signature smokiness alongside the classic sweet and crisp helles profile. Expect a subtly smoky aroma followed by a subtly smoky flavour with grassy hops and a gloriously clean crisp malt base. Classic Helles done a little differently, courtesy of Schlenkerla.
